General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that God warned him his firstborn would die if he ever left the denomination
Adeboye made the shocking revelation during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held on the midnight of Saturday, June 7, at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State.
Speaking on the importance of divine direction and staying rooted in God’s plan, Adeboye referred to an earlier sermon by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, where he addressed the growing trend of Christians frequently switching churches.
The cleric recalled that after he gave his life to Christ, there were several thriving ministries he was tempted to join, but God gave him a clear warning.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said.
“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
At the time, Adeboye said RCCG was relatively unknown, and its headquarters was a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Despite being a university lecturer, he said God instructed him to remain under the leadership of his spiritual father, who had no formal education.
“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he said.
He urged Christians, especially the youth, to seek God’s direction and remain where He has planted them.
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised.
Adeboye, however, clarified that his message was not meant to suggest that RCCG is superior to other churches.
“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he added.
