Security measures have been intensified in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit for the formal reception of Governor Umo Eno into the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for Saturday.

The event, set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, will be hosted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
Governor Eno officially joined the APC on June 6, 2025, at a ceremony held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Uyo, in the presence of Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
In a statement confirming the reception plans, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee, Aniekan Umanah, described the event as a landmark political gathering.
“All is set for the grand reception of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D., into the APC. The ceremony will hold on Saturday, June 21, at noon,” Umanah announced. “National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje will officially welcome the governor into the party, following a presentation by Akwa Ibom APC Chairman Obong Stephen Ntukekpo.”
President Tinubu will lead a delegation of high-profile party leaders to the event, which will also feature governors from the Progressive Governors’ Forum, members of the APC National Working Committee, senior party figures, and political stakeholders from across the country.
The APC has extended an open invitation to traditional rulers, youth and women groups, political leaders, and residents of Akwa Ibom to be part of the celebration, which it says symbolizes political realignment and a new phase of collaboration between the state and the federal government.
In anticipation of the large turnout, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, confirmed that robust security arrangements are already in place to ensure a smooth and safe event.
