On the night of June 23, 2024, a group of terrorists stormed the residence of Judge Janet Galadima, a prominent female jurist, in Kaduna, Nigeria, and took her and her four children hostage
The judge’s husband, a medical doctor, was away on duty at the time of the incident. The kidnappers have since demanded a ransom of N300 million in exchange for the safe release of the family.
Tragically, when their demands were not met, the terrorists brutally murdered the judge’s 14-year-old son, leaving the family and the community in a state of shock and grief.
According to Sahara Reporters, the kidnappers have threatened to harm the remaining children, aged 12, 9, and 6, if their demands are not met.
Human rights lawyer Gloria Ballason has condemned the abduction and murder, emphasizing that judicial officers have the right to protection and security to perform their duties without fear or intimidation.
The Nigerian state has a constitutional mandate to ensure the safety of citizens, including judges and their families.
Ballason described the murder of the judge’s son as “grisly and blood-curdling” and called on the Nigerian security agencies, the Governor of Kaduna state, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the Judiciary to take immediate action to rescue the abducted family members and ensure justice is served.
The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured that they are working tirelessly to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
