Brendan Brown, the longtime basketball analyst and commentator for the New York Knicks, passed away on Sunday at the age of 54, his wife Kate confirmed on Facebook.

The exact cause of death was not disclosed, but Kate Brown shared that the family is in “shock” over the loss.

Brendan was best known for his work with MSG Network, where he provided commentary for Knicks games from 2008 until last year.

He was also the son of renowned basketball coach Hubie Brown, who coached the Knicks from 1982 to 1987.

“It doesn’t seem real to have to say this and I’m struggling to find the right words, but on Sunday Brendan unexpectedly passed away due to health complications,” Kate wrote.

“We’re still in a bit of shock and processing.”

Earlier this year, Brendan’s mother, Claire Brown, passed away.

His father, Hubie, aged 91, has not yet commented publicly on the loss of his son.

Hubie had hired Brendan as part of his coaching staff with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Before transitioning into broadcasting, Brendan was an assistant coach at Wake Forest and worked as a scout for the Knicks from 2006 to 2008.
