Hijab shouldn't be allowed in mission schools - Bishop Oyedepo

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel), has strongly condemned moves to allow hijabs in Christian and mission schools, warning against what he described as attempts to overstep boundaries

Speaking during a church service, Oyedepo criticized demands by some Muslim groups for female students to wear hijabs in mission schools, calling it a “nasty development” and likening it to “a tenant decreeing for the landlord.”

“Such a nasty development in Kwara State, where Muslims are asking for their students in our schools to wear hijab. And the church said no. I’ve never seen a place in my life where a tenant will be decreeing for the landlord. God is not a toy. He said the Lord is a consuming fire — let’s show them the consuming fire part of God. Leave the schools for the owner. Go to your school. Is there any fight?” he said.

Oyedepo warned that mission schools belong to the church and should not be forced to accommodate rules contrary to their founding principles. He cautioned that when God “turns His back on anybody or any system, that system is grounded and cursed,” urging Muslim groups to establish their own schools where hijabs can be freely worn.

He also prayed for divine judgment on those harassing the church and spoke against wider social evils such as ritual killings, kidnapping, and destruction of livelihoods. Calling the church “a temple” and “a time bomb,” he urged Christians to pray for God’s intervention, declaring that life and property in Nigeria must no longer be toyed with.
