Tiwa Savage, award-winning Afrobeats singer, doesn’t vibe with the “Queen of Afrobeats” title people often call her
In a chat with Apple Music’s Ebro, she said while she appreciates the love behind the label, she’s not down to carry it.
“Yeah, they call me the Queen of Afrobeats, but there are a lot of us that are Queens,” she said.
Tiwa feels like accepting the title would bring pressure she’s not comfortable with.
“Personally, I don’t like that tag, it’s uncomfortable… I don’t accept it. But I appreciate it,” she added.
According to Tiwa, the label probably stuck because she was one of the first Nigerian female artists to break through big time.
“I didn’t come up with it. I think it’s just because I was one of the first female artistes in Nigeria to break through. I do appreciate that. I’m not taking it for granted,” she said.
