Toyin Abraham has reacted to comedian Bovi Ugboma’s comedic recreation of her viral exchange with Funke Akindele at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA)
During the awards ceremony, which was co-hosted by Bovi and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, the duo staged a humorous skit referencing the widely discussed moment between Abraham and Akindele.
In the act, Nomzamo Mbatha portrayed Funke Akindele while Bovi took on Toyin Abraham’s role. The segment drew loud laughter from the audience as Bovi delivered the line: “Aunty, aunty Funke… mtcheeww. If I ever present award to you, call me bastard.”
The performance referenced a viral clip from the premiere of The Return of Arinzo, where Akindele appeared to bypass Abraham during greetings at the Balmoral Event Centre. In the footage, Abraham was seen exchanging pleasantries with actresses Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe before approaching Akindele, who seemed not to acknowledge her at the time.
After the awards ceremony, Abraham addressed the moment in a relaxed conversation with Bovi, saying: “I knew you were going to crack that joke. But I am not going to lie, it was funny.”
Bovi responded with laughter, adding, “I was just trying to recreate what you guys are doing.”
The exchange has since sparked reactions online, with many users praising Abraham for taking the joke lightly and maintaining a sense of humour about the situation.
