Gospel artiste Frank Edwards has reflected on the humble beginnings of his music career, revealing that one of his most successful songs was recorded while he was living as a squatter with almost nothing to his name

While ministering in a church, the singer recounted how his journey changed in 2011 after his mother gave him N150,000 to establish a small recording studio.

Using the money, Frank said he converted a corner of the room where he was staying into a basic studio.

Because the house was located beside a busy road and lacked a proper vocal booth, he improvised by covering himself and the microphone with a blanket to block out external noise while recording his hit song, “Mma Mma.”

He said:

“I recorded ‘Mma Mma’ under a blanket because we lived close to the roadside. I had only two pairs of jeans and ate once a day, but God still lifted me.”

Frank added that his breakthrough came when music marketer Honesty Music visited the modest studio. Although the visitor was unimpressed by the appearance of the space, he was amazed after listening to the songs.

The singer said the meeting ended with a N4 million recording contract, which he accepted on the spot without taking time to read the agreement.

“I just flipped the paper, saw where they wrote N4 million and signed it. No need to read it. Make I chop first,” he said.
