Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared his willingness to serve only one term in office if chosen as a consensus candidate in the ongoing opposition coalition talks
Speaking during a live Space session on X (formerly Twitter) tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts, Obi affirmed that he would honour any agreement reached within the coalition, including stepping down for a Northern successor in 2031.
“If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031 — not even May 29,” Obi said in response to a question from a listener identified as Balactic. “I am not desperate to be president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work.”
The session drew over 10,000 live participants and nearly 3,000 comments, as Obi fielded questions on political collaboration, governance, and national development.
He added that upholding zoning and respecting coalition agreements would be a mark of political maturity and a step toward strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
