Popular food content creator Ify’s Kitchen has shared her experience of enduring nine years of infertility, discussing the emotional challenges and societal pressures she faced throughout the journey.
In an interview on the Terms and Conditions podcast, she described the psychological toll of waiting for a child without knowing when or if it would happen.
“It wasn’t the best at all, and one thing that really messes with you during the waiting period is you have no idea. It’s a different thing if someone comes to you to tell you that you’d give birth after seven or eight years, but you have no clue,” she explained.
Initially, Ify and her husband decided to take their first year of marriage to relax without trying for children. However, by the second year, they began to worry. “My husband and I planned to just chill for the first year and not try for kids, but by the second year we were like, ‘Wait a minute, isn’t it supposed to be very easy?’” she shared.
As the years passed, their anxiety deepened, and the extended wait took a toll on Ify’s mental and emotional health, leaving her feeling abandoned by God.
“It was very difficult; by the second year people said it’d happen, but by the third year, I didn’t know what was going on. It was really hard, and then you’d hear stories about women giving birth after 20 years,” Ify said.
She recalled a moment that deeply affected her: “I remember seeing a comment that said, ‘Those of you who give birth easily don’t know what God has done for you, God loves you.’ I was like, ‘God really hates me.’ It wasn’t directed at me, but I wept at work that day and asked God what I had done and why He doesn’t love me.”
