Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has dismissed reports linking him to an alleged romance scam, insisting the claims are false and have no basis in fact.

The actor broke his silence after stories emerged alleging that he was under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside the FBI over a supposed $75,000 romance scam involving an American woman.
Responding to the allegations, Ogbonna described the report as malicious and completely untrue. He explained that he has no involvement in internet fraud, romance scams or any criminal activity.
“This report is completely false, malicious, and without any factual basis. I don’t support or participate in any form of internet fraud, romance scams, or any other fraudulent activity.
“Unfortunately, this is not the first time my name, image, and identity have been used by unknown individuals operating fake social media accounts to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
I have never authorized anyone to represent me online, solicit money on my behalf, or engage in private conversations pretending to be me.
“Please remain vigilant and be extremely careful of impersonators and catfish accounts that exploit my identity to scam unsuspecting people”, he wrote.
According to the reports, the allegations stemmed from a complaint said to have been filed by a 49-year-old American woman identified as Kimberly Ann, who claimed she had been communicating online with someone posing as the actor since 2025 and allegedly lost $75,000 during the exchange.
Ogbonna, however, maintained that he has no connection to the allegations and urged members of the public to be cautious of fake accounts created by fraudsters who use the identities of public figures to deceive unsuspecting victims.
