Nigeria’s progress has been disappointing compared to peer nations, says Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate
In his Independence Day message, Obi urged leaders to examine their actions and address stagnation.
Sixty-four years after independence, Nigeria still lags behind in development indexes. We must reflect on our journey and take responsibility for our failures.
Areas needing improvement include poverty reduction, education accessibility, economic growth, security and peacefulness, and corruption elimination.
Obi emphasized the need for a solemn commitment to build a nation prioritizing citizen well-being, free from tribal disunity and religious disharmony.
Let us create a New and Productive Nigeria, truly independent and celebrating its diversity, Obi added.
He outlined strategies for national rebirth, focusing on securing Nigeria, unity and diversity management, production-centered growth, restructuring through legal and institutional reforms, economic diversification, infrastructure expansion, and robust foreign policy.
Anniversary celebrations, whether for an individual or a country, offer opportunities to reflect on memories, celebrate accomplishments, look toward the future, and express gratitude.
This is exactly what we are doing today as our dear nation marks its 64th independence…
