Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has reportedly been killed in Israeli airstrikes, according to Israeli media outlet Ma’ariv. The report claimed he was under house arrest at the time of the strike. Iranian authorities have yet to officially confirm the development
Ahmadinejad, who served as Iran’s sixth president from 2005 to 2013, previously led the capital city as mayor of Tehran before defeating establishment heavyweight Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in a runoff election.

He drew global condemnation during his presidency, particularly after hosting the conference A World Without Zionism, which many critics described as a platform for Holocaust denial. During that event, he quoted Iran’s founding leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, referring to Israel as “the occupying regime of Jerusalem” and a “disgraceful cancerous growth” that “must be wiped off the map.”
The reported killing comes amid escalating military confrontation tied to “Operation Epic Fury,” a large-scale combat campaign in Iran that also led to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
The U.S. Central Command confirmed casualties among American forces, stating:
“As of 9:30 am ET, March 1, three U.S. service members have been killed in action and five are seriously wounded as part of Operation Epic Fury. Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions — and are in the process of being returned to duty. Major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing. The situation is fluid, so out of respect for the families, we will withhold additional information, including the identities of our fallen warriors, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified.”
The specific location of the U.S. fatalities has not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities issued a stern warning following confirmation of Khamenei’s death during a joint American and Israeli assault.
“The most devastating offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces will begin toward the occupied territories and American terrorist bases in just moments.”
The statement was released via the semi-official Fars News Agency around 6:15 a.m. local time.
In the hours after reports of Khamenei’s death surfaced, Iran reportedly launched retaliatory strikes targeting Israeli and U.S.-linked assets across Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Oman, signaling a sharp escalation in regional tensions.
