Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), says the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu has been “sufficiently achieved” following the restoration of democratic governance at the grassroots
Ibas made the declaration on Friday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, during the formal presentation of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) report on the just-concluded local government elections.

He recalled that President Tinubu, on March 18, 2025, tasked him with stabilising the state, rebuilding its institutions, and returning it to full democratic governance.
“With the successful conduct and swearing-in of local government chairmen and their councils, I believe we have decisively achieved the mandate that we were given,” Ibas said.
He praised RSIEC for conducting what he described as a credible, transparent, and peaceful election, noting that voters freely expressed their will without harassment.
Ibas assured the public that the state government would review the RSIEC report and release a white paper, while also thanking his team, security agencies, and state officials for their roles in ensuring success.
Earlier, RSIEC Chairman Dr. Mike Odey called the election a “historic achievement” for Rivers and Nigeria, pointing out that it was planned, executed, and concluded within 30 days — a feat he said was unprecedented in the nation’s electoral history.
“The report highlights our modest achievements, our challenges, and provides key recommendations that will strengthen future elections in Rivers State,” Odey said.
