JAMB still a requirement for admission - Board dismisses rumour

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed claims that the UTME is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions

In a statement, JAMB’s Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, described the report as false and stressed that the Minister of Education, Dr. Mauruf Alausa, never made such an announcement.

Dr. Benjamin urged the public to ignore the misinformation, emphasizing that JAMB will continue to carry out its statutory responsibilities according to its enabling laws.

The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to fallacious information published by Phonix.browser.com on 16th October, 2025, claiming that ‘JAMB is no longer a prerequisite for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.’ This information is malicious and preposterous, as Hon. Minister of Education Dr. Mauruf Alausa has at no point made such a pronouncement.

“The misquoted statement, ‘Renewed Hope in Action: Federal Government Streamlines Admission Requirements to Expand Access to Tertiary Education,’ is part of ongoing federal efforts to improve access to tertiary education.

“We therefore call on the public to disregard this unfounded information and note that JAMB will continue to discharge its statutory duties in line with its enabling laws.”
