Jay-Z cleared, as accuser admits he did nothing, case withdrawn

The woman who accused rappers Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs of s3xually assaulting her at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when she was 13 was recently heard on a recording admitting that Jay-Z did not assault her and claiming her lawyer pushed her to file the lawsuit

The lawsuit against Jay-Z and Combs has since been withdrawn with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.

The recording, obtained by ABC News, features Jane Doe speaking with two private investigators associated with Carter. When asked if Jay-Z had any involvement in the alleged assault, she replied, “Yeah,” confirming he did not participate. She also claimed her attorney, Tony Buzbee, encouraged her to include Jay-Z in the lawsuit.

Buzbee denied the allegation, calling it a “blatant lie” and insisting that documentary evidence supports his actions.

Despite the recording, Jane Doe has maintained in a sworn declaration that she stands by her claims but dropped the case due to “fear of intimidation and retaliation” from Jay-Z and his fans. She also denied that Buzbee pressured her into filing a false lawsuit, adding that she felt “intimidated and terrified” when approached by investigators who knew her name and address.

Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, stated that the recording “speaks for itself” and proves the rapper’s innocence. “She says in no uncertain terms Mr. Carter did not do this,” he told ABC News.

Carter is now suing Jane Doe and Buzbee for defamation. “The truth had to fully come out,” Spiro said. “This person cannot be allowed to hide from the reality that this was a false accusation.”
