Jorge Jesus has reached an agreement to become Portugal’s new head coach following the departure of Roberto Martínez
According to ESPN, the 71-year-old Portuguese manager will sign a four-year contract with the Portuguese Football Federation, keeping him in charge until June 2030.
The appointment is expected to be officially announced on Thursday.
Jesus will replace Martínez, whose contract ended after Portugal’s Round of 16 exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 1-0 defeat to Spain.
The role will mark the first time the veteran coach has managed a national team.
Jesus becomes available after leading Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr to the league title, where he coached Portugal stars Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix.
He has previously managed top clubs including Benfica, Sporting CP, Flamengo and Fenerbahçe, winning league titles in Portugal, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
