Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have reportedly confiscated the international passport of Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, stopping her from boarding an international flight
In a live Facebook broadcast on Tuesday, the visibly enraged lawmaker accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of directing the immigration officers to prevent her from leaving the country.
“Have I committed any offense? Why are you withholding my passport?” she demanded while confronting the officials at the airport counter.
Natasha explained that she was only traveling for a short break after completing activities marking her second year in office. According to her, there was no court order restricting her movement or authorizing the seizure of her passport.
“The last time this happened, the officer in charge told us that Senate President Godswill Akpabio ordered them to withhold my passport and stop me from traveling, claiming that each time I go abroad, I tarnish the image of the country by granting interviews to international media,” she alleged.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigerian Immigration Service nor the office of the Senate President had responded to the allegations.
