The Labour Party has indefinitely suspended six prominent members, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senators Ireti Kingibe and Darlington Nwokocha, over allegations of anti-party conduct
Others suspended are Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowumi.
The party’s National Executive Council said the action followed recommendations from a five-member Disciplinary Committee set up on May 2, 2025. The decision, announced in a statement signed by National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim, takes immediate effect and bars the affected members from all party activities.
“The Disciplinary Committee has concluded its assignment and submitted its report,” the statement said. “After thorough deliberation, the NEC ratified the recommendations and suspended the following members indefinitely.”
The party also clarified that Nenadi Usman was not included in the list because she is not a registered Labour Party member, but rather a supporter of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
“We cannot sanction someone who isn’t a party member,” the statement said, while also accusing Usman of lacking the moral authority to speak on corruption due to her alleged financial misconduct.
Reaffirming its political independence, the Labour Party emphasized it would not enter any coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 general elections. “Labour Party intends to prosecute the 2027 general election as a stand-alone party,” the statement concluded.
