JUST IN: SDP bans El-Rufai for 30 years

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has banned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while attempting to drag the SDP into an unauthorized political coalition

In a strongly worded statement, the party said:
“Having confirmed that he publicly declared for the ADC and continued to act in a manner contrary to the principles and practices of the SDP, the party has no option but to disassociate and excommunicate him.”

As a result, the party declared El-Rufai banned from all SDP activities for 30 years, with immediate effect. He is also prohibited from applying for membership, using the party’s name, logo, or insignia, or engaging in any SDP-related affairs.

The SDP further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant bodies to disregard El-Rufai as a member, warning that he is not authorized to act or speak on the party’s behalf.

Reaffirming its stance on internal democracy and principled leadership, the SDP urged all interested Nigerians to follow due process in joining the party.

The statement also revealed that El-Rufai had allegedly proposed a grand welcome ceremony at the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja, which the party declined. Instead, he was advised to register properly at his ward in Kaduna.

“Rather than register lawfully with the Ward Executives, this individual simply forged his own documents and self-registered, arrogating to himself ‘number 001’ in the SDP membership register of Unguwar Sarki Ward, Kaduna North LGA,” the statement added. “This is contrary to all existing and updated records of the SDP in Kaduna State.”

El-Rufai had recently announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a disconnect between his values and the current direction of the party.
