A political storm is brewing in Kaduna State after former governor Nasir El-Rufai alleged that the current state government paid ₦1 billion to bandits
El-Rufai made the claims during a public appearance, asserting that the administration has not only been making payments but also negotiating with and issuing apologies to criminal groups behind recurring attacks across the state.

“One billion naira was paid to bandits by the current Kaduna government. They are paying bandits and apologizing to them. If the governor or anyone disagrees, let them come out and deny it — we have the evidence and proof,” El-Rufai said.
His statement has sparked widespread reactions, coming amid Kaduna’s persistent security challenges, which include mass abductions, k!llings, and frequent attacks on schools and highways. Security analysts warn that if the allegation is verified, it could severely undermine public confidence in the government’s ability to manage the state’s security situation.
Calls for transparency and clarification from the current administration are intensifying as residents demand answers about the handling of Kaduna’s security crisis.
