K!dnappers who a.bducted Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Bunza, have reportedly demanded a N200 million ransom for his freedom
The development was confirmed on Monday by the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the police commissioner, intelligence gathered by the command indicates that the a.bductors contacted Justice Bunza’s family and requested ₦200 million in exchange for his release.
Hadejia also revealed that the kidnappers reached out to a registrar of the High Court in Abuja as part of efforts to negotiate the judge’s release.
He said security operatives, including tactical units and intelligence personnel working alongside other agencies, have been deployed to forests and suspected routes believed to have been used by the k!dnappers.
The commissioner added that security has been strengthened with checkpoints mounted at key locations and surveillance intensified to stop the abductors from moving the victim.
He assured that the ongoing operation is aimed at rescuing Justice Bunza safely while ensuring those behind the abduction are arrested and brought to justice.
Hadejia urged members of the public to remain alert and share useful information with security agencies that could aid the rescue mission. He also advised residents, especially government officials and other high-profile individuals, to avoid unnecessary night journeys due to the current security challenges.
