What began as a search for a missing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Bayelsa State has ended in tragedy after his body was reportedly found in Nembe Local Government Area.
The deceased, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, was reportedly serving in the area at the time of the incident. Before joining the NYSC, he graduated from the Federal Polytechnic Nekede with a degree in Civil Engineering and had also served as the institution’s Student Union Government (SUG) president.
According to information shared by people familiar with the situation, Chimaroke’s body was recovered from a body of water in the Nembe area. It was alleged that he may have been attacked by unidentified persons before his death, although that has not been officially confirmed.
His disappearance had earlier prompted the Bayelsa State Police Command to launch a search operation.
Police sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the case was reported at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by fellow corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous.
The report stated that the Local Government Inspector informed them that the 27-year-old corps member, who was posted to serve in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24.
According to the police sources, several attempts to reach him through his mobile phone numbers were unsuccessful, raising concerns about his whereabouts.
The report prompted police to deploy officers to the creek community, a journey of about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, as efforts to find him and investigate the case got underway.
At the time of writing, the police had not officially confirmed the circumstances surrounding Chimaroke’s death, as investigations remained ongoing.
