A public affairs analyst and member of Peter Obi’s political movement, Dr. Kachi Ononuju, has alleged that financial expectations, particularly around house rent, contributed to the fallout between former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, and the former presidential candidate
Ononuju made the claim during an interview, where he spoke about the circumstances surrounding the breakdown of their political relationship.
According to him, Okonkwo’s disagreement with Obi was not driven by ideology but by unmet financial expectations, insisting that the rift was rooted in money-related issues.

He said Obi had made efforts to support Okonkwo during their association, but the actor-turned-politician allegedly expected more assistance than he received.
“Me and you last year started talks about Kenneth Okonkwo, and I told you as the leader of the spokespersons of Peter Obi what happened. So the fact that he had an issue, a private issue, and Peter tried to help, he was expecting more from Peter, he left and went to Atiku. Atiku helped him. Fine. The same thing Peter suggested was exactly what Atiku gave him,” he said.
Ononuju further claimed that after Okonkwo moved to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s camp, he received financial assistance, including support for accommodation.
He maintained that the disagreement within the Obi camp was largely about financial demands rather than political principles.
“When he met Atiku, he talked to Atiku. Atiku was sweet. Told him he would do. Atiku still gave him money for a flat,” he added.
“What brought trouble between him and us? Penny. Money to rent a house. I don’t tell Peter to pay me for house rent. Other people who work in the movement came in,” he said.
