President William Ruto on Friday, announced a series of measures aimed at reducing government spending, following weeks of nationwide protests

In a live broadcast, he scrapped the budgets for the offices of the First Lady and Second Lady, dissolved 47 redundant agencies, and suspended non-essential travel for state officials.
Additionally, he halved the number of government advisors and banned state officers from participating in fundraising events.
The austerity measures come after three weeks of protests against the Finance Bill, which turned violent and resulted in the loss of lives and property.
The protests had sparked global outrage, with human rights organizations accusing the government of using excessive force.
President Ruto had withdrawn the bill earlier, but the protests continued, demanding accountability for the violence.
The Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights reported 39 deaths, hundreds of injuries, and over 30 enforced disappearances during the protests.
Despite criticism, President Ruto maintained that he was not responsible for the bloodshed.
The government’s move to scrap the budgets and dissolve agencies is seen as an effort to address the protesters’ demands for reduced government spending and improved accountability.
