During the meeting, the King and Governor Bailey discussed the significance of the new banknotes, which will enter circulation on June 5, 2024. The notes, bearing serial numbers starting with 01 000001, were inspected by King Charles, who smiled at the intricate details.

These new banknotes replace those featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II, marking the first time one sovereign’s image has been replaced with another. Despite his ongoing treatment for cancer, King Charles expressed his appreciation for the security features incorporated into the notes.

The reverse side of the banknotes remains unchanged, featuring prominent historical figures such as Sir Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, JMW Turner, and Alan Turing. Existing notes with Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait will continue to be legal tender alongside the new banknotes featuring King Charles III.
