Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election in the state
Chinda secured the party’s ticket after becoming the only aspirant left in the race following the withdrawal of three other contenders on Wednesday night.
The aspirants who stepped down include the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, alongside Tonye Cole and Alabo Dakorinama George-Kelly.
Announcing the outcome of the primary election, Chairman of the State Governorship Primary Committee, Kwamoti Bitrus, disclosed that Chinda polled a total of 268,497 votes as the sole candidate.
Bitrus praised party members for their massive turnout during the exercise and also commended party agents for their commitment throughout the process.
He further appreciated the state leadership of the APC for ensuring a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the primary election.
Chinda, who currently represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was originally elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He presently serves as the Minority Leader of the 10th House of Representatives.
