Kwam 1 writes Abiodun again, demands cancellation of Awujale process

For the second time, popular Fuji musician KWAM1, has written to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, claiming he was excluded from the ongoing selection of the next Awujale of Ijebu and calling for the process to be canceled to avoid prolonged legal disputes

In his latest letter dated January 14, 2026, sent through his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu, Ayinde urged the governor to declare the Fusengbuwa Ruling House’s nomination meeting held on January 12, 2026, null and void for allegedly violating the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021.

Ayinde criticized what he described as the “imposition of a delegate system” and the deliberate exclusion of some members from participating in the nomination meeting. He argued that the approach amounted to an arbitrary exercise of authority, undermining the statutory duty of the ruling house to conduct a fair and transparent nomination.

Following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, it became the turn of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to present candidates for the Awujale stool. According to Ayinde, the Secretary of Ijebu Ode Local Government had, in a letter dated January 6, 2026, directed the ruling house to convene a statutory meeting for the nomination of candidates, in line with customary laws and state chieftaincy regulations.

Ayinde explained that at the Bisrod Hotel venue on January 12, he and other eligible members were prevented from entering the meeting by security personnel, including the police. Entry was restricted to “delegates” chosen by a faction of the ruling house, a system he said was unilaterally introduced and never agreed upon.

“The deliberate obstruction prevented our client and others from exercising their right to participate in the nomination process,” Ayinde’s letter stated. He insisted that the nomination exercise conducted without full participation is “procedurally defective, unlawful and null and void.”

In his letter, Ayinde called on Governor Abiodun to annul the January 12 nomination and order a fresh, transparent, and inclusive exercise that allows all eligible members, including himself, to participate freely.

Earlier, 95 candidates—94 princes and one princess from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—were presented at the nomination meeting at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode. The session was overseen by the Chairman, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi; his deputy, Prince Adedokun Ajidagba; and Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Yusuf, with local government officials observing.

Owoyemi praised the family for maintaining peace during the exercise, emphasizing the collective goal of selecting an Awujale who would advance Ijebuland’s progress.

The selection of a new Awujale has attracted widespread attention, with KWAM1 publicly declaring his intention to contest. However, the Fusengbuwa family maintains that the musician is not a member and therefore ineligible to participate.

KWAM1 had previously approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu Ode seeking an interim injunction to halt the nomination, but the court dismissed the application for lacking merit. The musician later withdrew the suit without explanation.

In a prior letter dated January 8, KWAM1 had also protested the use of the delegate system, arguing it was designed to disenfranchise interested members and violated both the chieftaincy declaration and the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021.

Prof. Yusuf, Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, dismissed the latest letter as “arrant nonsense,” while the state government has yet to respond.
