Lagos State Government has arrested 45 individuals engaged in street begging across Alimosho, Agege, and Oshodi during coordinated enforcement operations carried out across the state
The arrests were made by environmental enforcement officers at various locations as part of the government’s ongoing compliance and sanitation drive.

Confirming the development on Tuesday via his official X account, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said: “As part of our ongoing enforcement and mop-up exercises across the state, additional arrests were recorded today.”
He provided a breakdown of the operation, revealing that 17 beggars were apprehended in Alimosho and 12 in Agege. Subsequent operations led to the arrest of another 10 individuals in Alimosho and six in Oshodi.
Wahab explained that the exercise aligns with the state’s strict policy against street begging, describing it as both an environmental nuisance and a threat to public safety.
“Street begging along highways, medians, and public spaces poses serious risks to the individuals involved and other road users, while also undermining public order,” he said.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustained enforcement to ensure a safer, cleaner, and more orderly environment throughout Lagos State.
