Lagos Govt arrests 45 street beggars in different locations

The Lagos State Government has arrested 45 suspected street beggars, including both adults and minors, during enforcement operations carried out in different parts of the state

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday.

According to him, the first operation took place in Oshodi and Agege, where 22 individuals were apprehended, including adults and teenagers found begging on the streets.

He further revealed that another exercise conducted at CMS led to the arrest of 23 persons, made up of 14 adults and nine children.

He said:

“Earlier today, in a separate enforcement operation, our team apprehended 22 beggars at Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers.

“Additionally, 14 adults and 9 children were apprehended at CMS,” Wahab stated.

Wahab added that similar clearance operations are ongoing in other parts of Lagos, including Admiralty Way in Lekki and Addo Road in Ajah, as part of efforts to maintain environmental order and ensure public safety.
