A Lagos-based TikToker has alleged harassment while filming the long lines and severe bus shortages at the Ikorodu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) terminal, shedding light on the daily struggles of commuters along one of the city’s busiest transport corridors

“I got harassed on the queue because I spoke up,” the creator, known on TikTok as darkskinnedella (@ella_the_fashionistar), said in a video posted Wednesday, recounting her experience.

The videographer and video editor relocated to Lagos between September and October 2025 and has since been documenting her daily commute to Lagos Island, highlighting the realities of navigating the BRT system.

The Lagos BRT system, regulated by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), is operated daily by private companies including Primero Transport Services Limited. Videos posted by the TikToker show commuters spending over two hours in line, despite arriving early, due to insufficient bus availability.

“Why people use BRT is because it has its own lane,” she said, adding that even with early departures—sometimes as early as 4 a.m.—commuters still face long waits. Evening commutes remain equally challenging, with similar delays for buses returning passengers home.

Tensions escalated Tuesday when she posted a confrontation with a woman who told her to stop recording inside the terminal. “If they provided buses for us, I will stop. If I spend more than five minutes in this queue, I will make videos,” the TikToker insisted.

The woman suggested she arrive even earlier, prompting a heated exchange about the inadequacy of bus supply. Later videos show a staff member attempting to seize her phone while she continued recording, leading to a verbal standoff.

In another incident inside a bus, the TikToker claimed a man threatened her after seeing the videos online. She also alleged that many BRT buses had been chartered for an event that morning, worsening the shortage for daily commuters.

“I was shocked when I found out almost all the BRT buses were chartered for an event. They knew people would go to work, yet we still stood for hours,” she said, noting that she eventually left the terminal after 9 a.m.
