The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has reacted to claims of harassment involving a Lagos-based TikTok creator, darkskinnedella, after videos she shared about long queues at a BRT terminal gained traction online
The content creator, who regularly posts videos about her daily commute to Lagos Island, recently highlighted the lengthy waiting times faced by passengers, sometimes stretching beyond two hours. She also alleged that transport officials harassed her while she was filming the situation at the terminal.

Responding to questions from PUNCH Online, LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi, said the situation was misunderstood and did not amount to a confrontation. According to him, filming individuals within the transport system without their consent is discouraged in line with privacy regulations.
“One of the ground staff of one of our Bus Operating Companies attempted to communicate this policy to the individual who was filming, but the message was unfortunately received with aggression.”
The agency also addressed concerns about an alleged shortage of buses along the busy Ikorodu corridor. Ojelabi explained that each BRT route operates with a fixed number of buses scheduled for daily service.
“The reports of bus shortages currently trending have been noted. However, it is important to clarify that each route has a specific number of buses allocated to it.
“Once these buses are loaded and depart with passengers to their destinations, subsequent commuters may have to wait for the buses to return before boarding.”
LAMATA added that the waiting time experienced by passengers is largely due to operational cycles rather than an actual lack of buses.
The authority also dismissed suggestions that some buses were hired out for private events, which the TikToker had hinted might be contributing to the congestion.
“This is not true. Buses are not expected to be on charter.”
To improve the situation, LAMATA said it is working with private bus operators to increase the number of buses in service and reduce waiting times for commuters.

Darkskinnedella began documenting her BRT journey after moving to Lagos in late 2025. Her videos often show long lines at terminals, early morning departures from home, and extended delays before passengers can board buses both in the morning and evening.
