Following the tragic collapse of a two-storey building in the Maryland area of Lagos State, which claimed the lives of five construction workers, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has taken swift action

General Manager Gbolahan Oki has banned people, particularly laborers, from sleeping at construction sites in the state.

Oki directed that nobody should be found sleeping in any building under construction after work hours, especially at night.

According to The Punch, LASBCA officials will conduct night inspections to ensure compliance.

The agency has also set specific construction hours, from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday, excluding Sundays.

Additionally, property owners and developers are required to engage only professional structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers and architects for their building projects.

Failure to comply will result in the sealing and possible removal of the building project site.

This directive aims to safeguard the building construction industry and ensure that buildings in the state are safe, secure, and fit for habitation.

The agency will also conduct material testing on the collapsed building to determine the cause of the collapse.
