A 29-year-old man, Jeremy Bosman, has been arrested and charged with murder following the death of his three-year-old stepson, Charvandre Kieran Everson, reportedly due to Bosman’s violent reaction after the child wet the bed.
Mojalefa Senokoatsane, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Northern Cape, stated that the alleged abuse occurred on October 19.
After Charvandre wet the bed, Bosman is accused of striking the child on the head, hitting him with a broom, and slamming his head against a wall, leaving the child unable to eat properly.
In a second incident, Bosman reportedly attacked Charvandre again following another bed-wetting episode, causing blood in his mouth and loss of mobility in his legs.
Afterward, Bosman allegedly told the child’s mother to remain silent about the assaults.
Charvandre was taken to De Aar New Hospital, where medical staff found he had already passed away and observed multiple bruises on his body.
Authorities were notified, leading to Bosman’s arrest.
Bosman faces murder and assault charges and is currently in custody, with his bail hearing set for November 1.
The NPA intends to oppose bail due to the serious nature of the case.
Senokoatsane emphasized the prosecution’s dedication to achieving justice, especially in light of the case’s domestic violence and child abuse context.
