Manchester City overcame an early setback to defeat Brentford 2-1, preserving their 100% Premier League record

Erling Haaland starred, scoring twice to bring his season tally to nine goals
Brentford’s Yoane Wissa netted the season’s quickest top-flight goal (23 seconds), capitalizing on a John Stones and Ederson mishap. However, Haaland steadied City with a driven shot after Kevin de Bruyne’s tackle inside the box.
Despite mourning a close family friend’s passing, Haaland struck again before halftime, outmuscling Ethan Pinnock to reach Ederson’s long punt. He nearly achieved a third successive hat-trick, a feat last accomplished in 1946.
Haaland came close with a tipped effort over the bar and an instinctive strike against the post. Despite the crowd’s encouragement and manager Pep Guardiola’s decision to keep him on, Haaland settled for a brace.
City’s victory maintains their perfect start ahead of their Champions League opener against Inter Milan on Wednesday.
