Man To Die By Hanging For Murder In Delta State

A 26-year-old man, Lucky Anyali, has been sentenced to death by hanging
for killing one Emeka Ashibuogwu by stabbing him to death with a kitchen knife.
Anyali, a builder, was ordered to be killed by hanging by a Delta State
    High Court sitting in Asaba.
The Delta State Ministry of Justice said this in a statement on
Thursday by its Public Relations Officer, Ivovi Aruoriwo.
Aruoriwo said, in convicting Anyali of murder, the court rejected his
argument that he stabbed Ashibuogwu to death with a kitchen knife on February
    18, 2014 in self defence.

The Delta State Ministry of Justice said in its statement that Anyali
killed Ashibuogwu during a scuffle that ensued between them on February 18,
2014 when the deceased went to Ogwashi-Uku to see his estranged wife and mother
    of his three-year-old daughter.
The deceased was said to have gone to see his daughter who was said to
    be ill.
The convict was said to have been having an affair with the estranged
    wife of the deceased.
According to the statement, Anyali became angry upon sighting
Ashibuogwu with his (Ashibuogwu’s), estranged wife, who Anyali happened to have
    been having an affair with.
The convict was said to have stabbed the deceased in the chest after
which he fled but was later arrested by some youths in the community.
He was said to have been handed over to the police, to whom he
    reportedly made a confessional statement.
The court, in its judgment, was
said to have convicted Anyali as charged under Section 319(1) of the Criminal
Code Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.
