Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola says she is happy with where she is in life and is not in a hurry to get married, even though she believes marriage plays an important role in society.

Speaking on the In My Opinion podcast, where actor Uzor Arukwe also discussed marriage, Bisola spoke about why some women question the need to stay married when they are left to handle most of the responsibilities at home.

She said:

“Women are like, you know what? What’s the point if I still have to do everything myself? Why do I have to be tied to this man all in the name of marriage?”.

She pointed out that some women are responsible for providing for their families while also raising children and taking care of the home.

In such situations, their partners may still expect them to handle household duties and cater to their needs, leaving the women with little support.

Bisola, however, does not see marriage as something to rule out completely. She believes it is important to society. But she is not making it the centre of her life.

“Marriage is an institution, is essential for the society. For me, if marriage does come, I will get married, but it is not the core of my existence. I mean, I’m doing pretty good,” she stated.

The actress, who is a mom to a 17-year-old daughter, also spoke about the realities of raising a child alone. While she continues to care for her daughter as a single parent, she makes sure her daughter understands that it is not an experience she should aspire to.

“Being a single parent and looking after my daughter, I still let her know that being a single parent is not that easy. That’s not what you should aspire to be. Bearing the whole load of raising a child shouldn’t be for one person alone.

“I turned 40 in January. Yeah. I love me so much, and this is the best times of my life,” she added.
