Sharing the video on social media, Mavin Records wrote:

“Six years ago, the journey to fulfill the prophecy began. Rema said ‘another banger’ and nothing was the same.

Six years of trailblazing.
Six years of many history-making milestones.
Six years of being ‘the future’.

With all the Ravers around the world, we celebrate six years of Rema today. Cheers to all the many wins ahead.”

From Viral Freestyle to Afrobeats Stardom

Born Divine Ikubor, Rema first gained attention in 2019 when his freestyle on D’Prince’s Gucci Gang went viral. This led to his signing with Jonzing World, an imprint under Mavin Records.

That same year, he dropped his self-titled debut EP, which quickly topped Apple Music Nigeria’s charts. His breakout hit Dumebi became an Afrobeats anthem, solidifying his place as a rising star.

Breaking Records and Conquering the Global Stage

Rema’s debut album, Rave & Roses (2022), featured collaborations with Chris Brown, 6lack, and AJ Tracey, but it was Calm Down—especially its remix with Selena Gomez—that propelled him to international superstardom. The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the biggest Afrobeats records ever.

His accolades include:

  • MTV Video Music Award for Best Afrobeats Video
  • Billboard Music Award for Top Afrobeats Song
  • Soundcity MVP Award for Digital Artist of the Year
  • 1 Billion Global Streams Award during his 2022 London concert

In 2023, Rave & Roses Ultra became the first African album to surpass 2 billion Spotify streams. That same year, he performed at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris and sold out London’s O2 Arena.
