Amid escalating violence between the warring communities of Ilobu and Ifon, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has extended the ongoing curfew to Erin-Osun town
In addition to expanding the curfew’s coverage, the governor has also increased its duration from 12 hours to a full 24-hour restriction daily to safeguard lives and property across the state.
To enforce compliance, he has directed all security agencies, including the Military, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Immigration, NDLEA, and AMOTEKUN, to intensify surveillance in the affected areas and ensure strict adherence to the new measures.
According to reports, the decision aims to prevent further escalation of the crisis and maintain law and order following the resurgence of communal clashes.
Announcing the development in a statement on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said Governor Adeleke expressed deep concern over the renewed violence in the affected communities.
“The curfew on Ifon-Ilobu communities has now been extended to Erin-Osun until further notice,” the statement read.
Governor Adeleke, in his message, stated, “I am saddened by the escalation of communal clashes between Ilobu and Ifon. To contain the crisis, I have approved the extension of the curfew to Erin-Osun, with a 24-hour daily restriction effective immediately (March 22, 2025) until further notice.”
“The governor sympathizes with those who have suffered losses due to the conflict and assures that perpetrators will be brought to justice,” the statement added.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to peace, the governor warned against further violence. “Osun is known for peace and harmony, and this communal clash must stop now. The government will ensure it does.”
He urged residents to uphold the values of Omoluabi, reject violence, and embrace peaceful coexistence.
