The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about an unregistered product, “Fair Child Soap,” circulating in the country

NAFDAC issued the alert after receiving a complaint about the unethical marketing and use of skin-lightening products among minors.
During routine post-market surveillance, the agency discovered that the unregistered cosmetic product, “Fair Child Soap,” was being sold in various retail outlets in Lagos. The soap, which is aimed at children, is being marketed with misleading and deceptive labeling.
In a meeting with the product’s marketer, Lexmart Cosmetics Ltd, it was confirmed that the product was imported, with plans to manufacture it locally. As a result, the company has been sanctioned and ordered to halt further distribution. The product is not authorized for distribution in Nigeria and is not registered with NAFDAC.
Given the skin-lightening claims and the product’s targeting of children, NAFDAC warns of serious health risks, including skin damage, exposure to harmful or banned substances, and long-term dermatological effects.
