Dan Burn gave Newcastle the lead just before halftime with a powerful header, and Alexander Isak extended their advantage early in the second half. Federico Chiesa pulled one back for Liverpool in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to force extra time.
The loss leaves Liverpool manager Arne Slot with the challenge of refocusing his team as they continue their pursuit of Premier League and European success this season.
