Hundreds of protesters in Abuja participating in the #FearlessInOctober demonstration have been met with teargas and force by Nigerian police on Tuesday
The protesters, gathered in the Jabi and Utako areas, demanding an end to poverty, hardship, and poor governance.
The protesters carried banners reading “We are hungry” and “Enough is Enough – Revolution Now,” to express their frustration with Nigeria’s dire economic situation, including skyrocketing food prices and fuel costs, and widespread poverty.
Eyewitnesses reported injuries among protesters, but no official casualty count has been released.
One protester stated, “The government seeks to repress and oppress us, but we won’t be silenced. We demand change.”
The #FearlessInOctober movement seeks to pressure the government to address economic woes and improve living conditions, drawing Nigerians from all walks of life.
The protesters are calling for an end to economic hardship, improved security, and better leadership.
