The #JusticeForOchanya campaign has resurfaced across social media platforms in Nigeria, seven years after the d3ath of 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanje, whose tragic story once shook the nation
Ochanya, from Benue State, d!ed in October 2018 after reportedly enduring years of s3xual and physical abuse. Her case sparked national outrage at the time, drawing attention to the failure of child protection systems and the lasting trauma of abuse.

She was allegedly assaulted by a university lecturer, Andrew Ogbuja, and his son, Victor Ogbuja—an ordeal that left her severely ill before her passing. Despite the nationwide outcry that followed, justice has remained elusive for years, with the case still unresolved.
The delay in prosecution has now reignited anger among Nigerians, prompting a fresh wave of activism online. On platforms like X, Instagram, and Facebook, citizens, celebrities, and advocacy groups are demanding accountability and systemic reform.
Human rights organisations say the renewed campaign is not only about securing justice for Ochanya but also about ensuring the protection of other young girls from abuse and exploitation.
As the movement gains traction once more, supporters remain hopeful that Ochanya’s case will finally receive fair judgment and inspire stronger laws to protect children across the country.
