President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday hosted Governor Alex Otti of Abia State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a meeting reportedly linked to efforts to secure the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu

Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment on terrorism-related charges by a Federal High Court in Abuja on November 20, 2025, a verdict that sparked nationwide protests and renewed calls for his release.

The meeting follows Governor Otti’s visit to Kanu at the Sokoto prison, where the IPOB leader is serving his sentence. Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN; and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

After the prison visit, Otti reiterated Abia State’s commitment to exploring all lawful avenues to secure Kanu’s release. “While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated, and will continue to work on, the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” he said.

Tuesday’s engagement with President Tinubu is widely viewed as part of Otti’s broader political and legal strategy to advance dialogue and seek possible solutions at the federal level.

At the time of reporting, further details of the meeting were not yet available.
