Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is free of any cabal, insisting that the president is firmly in charge of governance

Wike made the remark while delivering the keynote address at the 2025 OAU Distinguished Personality Lecture held on Thursday in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
“He has shown that he has the courage. Under Tinubu, there is nothing like cabal. This is a president that is in charge,” Wike said.
He praised Tinubu for making bold decisions that previous Nigerian presidents, including Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, failed to take—particularly the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange rates. According to him, without Tinubu’s intervention, fraudulent beneficiaries of the fuel subsidy scheme would still be profiting.
Wike acknowledged that Nigeria has struggled since independence and is grappling with various fault lines. However, he expressed optimism that the country can still achieve greatness if the right governance structures are implemented.
He emphasized the need to rebuild trust, promote unity in diversity, and pursue national development with vision, sacrifice, and determination. “The Nigeria we desire won’t fall from heaven. It will require our collective effort. Let us leave for the next generation resolve, not regrets,” he said.
Addressing critics who have called for his removal as FCT Minister, Wike dismissed their concerns, saying those questioning his competence are misguided. He reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing accountability in Abuja, particularly the collection of outstanding ground rent debts. “Heaven will not fall if they pay what they owe,” he said.
The lecture was attended by notable figures including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Minister of Finance Wale Edun; former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Samuel Ortom, among others.
