The Nasarawa State University, Keffi, community gathered on Saturday to remember veteran Nollywood actor Chief Francis Duru, who d!ed on October 23 at the age of 57.

The evening was an emotional one as colleagues, students, friends and family members came together to celebrate a man whose work went beyond the movie industry.

Duru was not only known for his acting career but also had a strong connection with the university through its Institute for Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM). During his time there, he supported academic activities and took an active interest in guiding students.

The procession began at the university’s main gate, with participants carrying candles as they made their way to the ISDEVCOM premises. There, members of the university community took turns paying tribute to his life, career and the memories he left behind.

Among those present were the Acting Director of ISDEVCOM, Dr. Daniel Chikada, and the institute’s pioneer Director, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, alongside other university officials and guests.
Students and members of Duru’s family also remembered him, sharing personal accounts of the man they knew beyond the screen. His son, Ebuka Duru, expressed gratitude to the university for organising the memorial in honour of his father.
The gathering came to a close with a candle-lighting ceremony, as those in attendance stood together to remember a man whose presence touched both the entertainment industry and the academic community.
