The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially commenced the payment of N44,000 in arrears to both serving and former corps members, following the implementation of the new minimum wage

The arrears cover the shortfall in allowances from July 2024 to March 2025. During that period, corps members were still receiving the old N33,000 monthly stipend despite the federal government’s approval of a new minimum wage, which raised the allowance to N77,000—reflecting the N70,000 minimum wage plus a 10% increment.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, confirmed the development and explained that payments are being made in batches.
He assured all eligible corps members, including those who have already completed their service, that they will receive the outstanding payments. The necessary bank details for the disbursement are already in the system.
The delay had previously caused frustration among corps members, but the start of the payments has brought relief. Many ex-corps members have confirmed receiving the funds, with gratitude pouring in across social media.
This move fulfills the Federal Government’s earlier promise to adjust corps members’ stipends in line with the new wage structure and is seen as a step toward restoring trust and improving the welfare of Nigerian youth serving the nation.
