The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has resumed payment of arrears to corps members, with disbursements beginning on Wednesday after a two-month break since the last payment on June 3
The arrears are tied to the recently approved N77,000 monthly allowance by the Federal Government.

Back in April, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu assured that all eligible corps members, including those who had already completed their service, would benefit from the increment once funds were released.
“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details,” Nafiu said during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja. He further stressed that the government remains “responsible and responsive” to the needs of its citizens.
Confirming the latest development, a recently discharged corps member told PUNCH, “After waiting for two months, I didn’t expect to see another payment alert. But honestly, it’s not just about the money; it’s about feeling like our efforts actually count.”
The arrears cover the period from July 2024 to March 2025 and come after months of frustration among corps members over delays in the implementation of the new allowance, which was introduced to cushion the economic challenges facing Nigerian youth.
