Two students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Oladepo Joshua and Ejike Kelechi who protested during Wike’s lecture at theis school have been released
They were released Thursday evening after their arrest sparked large protest by fellow students at the Moore Police Division in Ile-Ife, Osun State

The students had been detained for protesting during a lecture delivered by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the university’s Oduduwa Hall.
The event, part of the institution’s Distinguished Personality Lecture series, drew criticism from some student groups who questioned Wike’s political track record and the legitimacy of his invitation.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the students were arrested for raising placards during the event, with messages urging the minister to “compensate those whose houses you demolished,” referring to Wike’s widely criticized demolitions in the FCT.
Their detention triggered outrage on campus, as scores of students marched to the Moore Police Station, nearly shutting down operations at the division in a bid to pressure authorities to release their colleagues. The protest succeeded, and the two students were released the same evening.
