The Ondo State Police Command has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Enu-Owa Division in Ondo West Local Government Area following what authorities described as “unprofessional conduct” in the handling of a case involving social media influencer Mandykiss.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, announced the decision on Tuesday, noting that it came after a viral video showed Mandykiss filming and taking photographs of two female suspects inside a police station—an action that sparked outrage and drew criticism from the public.
The controversy began on Saturday when Mandykiss confronted a woman and her daughter, identified online as Honeymoon and Mormor, accusing them of repeatedly cyberbullying her. The confrontation escalated into a police matter after online insults reportedly turned into threats.
According to Lawal, preliminary findings revealed that no police officers were present during the alleged arrest of the suspects. Instead, the influencer was said to have been assisted by some of her online followers, who helped her track down and apprehend the duo—identified as Mrs. Akinwole Sabitu and her daughter, Miss Akinwole Oyindamola.
The suspects were later taken to the Enu-Owa Police Division, where Mandykiss was filmed recording herself with them inside her vehicle before handing them over to the police. She reportedly went on to take pictures of the suspects within the station premises and shared them on her social media pages.
The commissioner condemned the act, describing it as “a violation of due process and a disregard for the suspects’ right to presumption of innocence.” He said the DPO’s failure to maintain control and ensure professional standards during the incident amounted to a serious lapse in judgment.
“This incident reflects a lack of proper supervision and professionalism at the divisional level,” Lawal said. “The command will not tolerate any action capable of undermining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.”
He emphasized that photographing or filming suspects in custody breaches ethical codes and the constitutional guarantee of innocence until proven guilty. Lawal added that the DPO’s redeployment was necessary to restore integrity and discipline within the command.
The commissioner further reminded officers of their responsibility to protect the rights of both suspects and complainants, stressing that professionalism and decorum must always guide police operations.
